Trad Routes
Traditional Irish and Folk music by Liam O'Riordan
Liam has been performing for many years now. He has played all the biggest venues in Kinsale, Blarney,
Bantry, Killarney, Kenmare and Limerick to name but a few. He has recorded several albums over the years
including "Sticking Out a Mile For Blarney" to benefit the town of Blarney. He has toured in America,
Belgium, Holland, Denmark, and Germany, and is in high demand for festivals and appearances all over the
world. He represented Ireland at the Tuno Festival in Denmark July 2007. He has become so popular that
he's been invited back year after year to perform at many locations. To spend a night or an evening at one
of his performances can only be described as a pleasure with his unique mixture of song and fun.

Liam comes from a very musical family and from a very early age he showed a keen interest in music. He
only began to concentrate on music when he finished his sports career. On both sides of his family there is a
strong musical background. His father has sung all over the world, is still singing and entertaining, and has
certainly passed on some of his musical knowledge to Liam. It shows in no uncertain terms in the pride Liam
takes in what he does.

Liam plays a blend of old and new Irish music and from listening to them it is obvious that Liam's influences
are songwriter Jimmy McCarthy, performer Christy Moore as well as the great Dubliner Luke Kelly. He
manages to blend song with tune and often you will find a jig or a reel at the end of a song. Not known for
playing a set program, it is never known what is coming next with Liam on stage. Because of this no two
nights with him are the same and it is common for people to go four or five nights in a row to hear him
playing. In fact people have spent a vacation in the same place just to hear them playing each night. He has
built up a huge following and often finds tourists returning year after year to hear him play. He's even had a
group of 80 American tourists rearrange their trip to be able to see him perform, his show is not to be
missed.

Liam is pleased to announce he is now being joined at most gigs by Ger Walsh. Having been friends
for closed to 20 years, as a result of a chance meeting in a shopping mall, Liam asked Ger to join
him for a couple of gigs. Ger had played with the very popular and famous Cork folk group Galleon
for the past 25 years, but the band had decided to call it a day. As a result Ger was playing very
little and Liam saw the chance to do a couple of gigs with the one musician that he had admired a
lot. As a result of this chance meeting things have snowballed and now Liam and Ger are well
established as a duo. In addition to playing guitar, five string banjo, whistles and concert flute, Ger
is also adding very nicely to the vocals.

Ger spent 25 years playing with Galleon, who as a group played all over the world including America,
England, Canada and Germany to name a few. In fact Galleon became so big in Koln, Germany that
they had a number one selling album and played with the hugely famous German band The Honer as
well as doing concerts with the Koln philharmonic orchestra. In fact, Ger was recently invited by
this orchestra to perform solo at their 25th anniversary concert. Ger is a very serious solo act and
adds a huge amount to Liam's already established music. So it's with huge pleasure Liam is
delighted to announce this partnership. As always no two gigs are the same with Liam and with
Ger's determination it's even a bigger variety of music. Both men now enjoy and love playing
together and this is very obvious at every gig. Come and see this new set up, you will really enjoy
the experience. The duo are now about to release two new albums, Shenanigans and As We Like It.

They currently play regularly in season in Kinsale on Sunday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday nights with
some Saturdays as well. Check the Schedule page for most current information. Liam also does trips to the
Philadelphia area as time permits and plays in several locations in the Philadelphia and southern NJ areas.
New trips are normally listed on the main page with the appearance dates, so check back often to see
where he might be appearing. He is available for appearances in other places.  He also has a
mailing list to
stay informed about new cds and tours.
